Hand-painted Art Nouveau tiles
by tenetiles
This tile collection began with a love for Glasgow’s historic tenement tiles, the decorative Art Nouveau patterns that embellished doorways and stairwells, known as "closes", across the city. That inspiration first came to life in a series of linocut prints, and now it’s taken a new form as hand-glazed ceramic tiles.
Each one is hand-painted in small batches, celebrating the beauty of slow, crafted work.
Whether you’re restoring a period home or simply looking for something a little different, these tiles bring a touch of history and handmade charm to everyday spaces.
Each tile is carefully hand-glazed, one at a time, making every piece a small work of art. This means no two tiles are exactly the same, as each has subtle variations in tone, surface texture, and finish that make it completely unique.
Each tile is made with care, hand-glazed in small batches to create something special. They’re designed to be lasting pieces that bring character, individuality, and a touch of history to your home.

These tiles are intended for walls and interior decorative use. Whether you're adding a feature to a hallway, kitchen, bathroom, or fireplace surround, they create a striking focal point and bring character to any space.
Each design is also available framed, either as a single tile or a pair. Distinctive and versatile, they work just as well as functional pieces as they do small works of art.

Yes! Once sealed, the tiles are non-absorbent, easy to clean, and resistant to everyday oils, detergents, and moisture. They’re made to be both beautiful and functional, created to last and bring a touch of charm to your space.

Each tile is made to order and hand-glazed with care, so please allow 4-6 weeks for your tiles to be crafted before they are shipped. This lead time ensures every piece is created with attention and quality in mind.
If you're tiling a space, it's a good idea to order 15% extra to allow for cuts, potential breakage, or future repairs. Because each batch is hand-painted, slight variations in colour and finish are part of what make these tiles special, ordering everything at once helps keep the look consistent.
